Kids Yoga

Yoga has been around for thousands of years. Yoga as a practice started in India and is now very popular around the world. It’s popular because it’s a fun and easy way for both adults and kids to feel healthy and happy, get fit and clear your mind. The word “yoga” means “union” in Sanskrit, the ancient language of India. Yoga is the Union or coming together of mind (thoughts and feelings) and physical body.

There are many aspects to yoga. Yoga is a system of physical exercises or postures (called Asanas). These asanas build strength, flexibility, coordination and confidence. Yoga is also about breathing (called pranayama) which helps calm and refresh the body and children’s minds. We create yoga stories depending on age and apply appropriate games. We learn about cooperation during partner yoga. We are learning about our feelings and emotions and how to get rid of all our worries.

Kids Yoga is also about exploring and learning in a fun, safe and playful way. Yoga is fantastic for children. Here is what children and adults can learn from yoga:

  • Yoga teaches us how to quiet the mind before exams
  • Yoga teaches us about balance

Nursery Project

Every week kids are learning the traditional sun salutation through the yoga story. Kids open classes with sounds called “mantras” followed by breathing techniques.

They learn yoga asanas through stories and games. We create a morning song /riddle routine improving their vocabulary and counting technique as well.

Our mascot “Jelly” teaches kids to feel strong and positive during the session. If any of the children are sad Jelly loves to give them cuddles or high fives.
